CMA celebrates Mark Rothko, one of the most influential and best-known artists of the 20th century. Mark Rothko: The Decisive Decade features 37 works from the 1940s, crucial years in the development of Rothko's universally recognizable color-field paintings. Fueled by the anxieties of the late 1930s and the years of WWII, Rothko's previous figurative imagery became increasingly symbolic and dream-like. Rothko finally landed upon a new way of painting, using blocks of color which for him contained a ""breath of life"" he found lacking in most figurative painting of the time. This, the first significant exhibition of Mark Rothko's work ever to be on display in Columbus, is organized by the Arkansas Art Center, the Columbia Museum of Art, the Columbus Museum of Art and the Denver Art Museum, in conjunction with the National Gallery of Art, Washington.

Kroger Chilly Open – Feb 2nd 2013
Columbus Zoo and Aquarium
A new presenting sponsor has brought a new name to popular local fundraiser.
The former Wendy’s Chili Open will become the Kroger Chilly Open in its 2013 rendition, scheduled for Feb. 2. at the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium.
The event is the Rotary Club of Westerville Sunrise’s largest annual fundraiser.
It still will feature food from local restaurants, live music, silent and live auctions and zoo-wide entertainment, as well as The Children’s Open, which will provide supervised entertainment for children ages 5 to 12
But Wendy’s is out and Kroger is in as the presenting sponsor, thus the change from Chili Open to Chilly Open.
In its 16-year history, the event has raised $1.9 million for local children’s charities, such as the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption, Children’s Hunger Alliance, Flying Horse Farms, Mount Carmel St. Ann’s Hospital, the Ohio Troopers Caring Fund, the Sunrise Rotary Foundation, the Westerville Area Resource Ministry, Buckeye Ranch and Nationwide Children’s Hospital.
Organizers say it is one of the largest one-day fundraisers organized and planned by Rotary clubs nationwide.
In addition to Kroger, this year’s event is sponsored by Papa John’s and media sponsors WBNS-10TV, The Columbus Dispatch, WCOL 92.3, ThisWeek Community News and ClearChannel Outdoor.
