With Halloween only a couple days away, it is important to ensure that your home is safe and easy to approach. As the time to hear “Trick or Treat” at your door gets nearer, be sure to follow this Halloween Home Safety Checklist…

      1. Clear The Way: When decorating for Halloween, be sure that your decorations do not interfere with walkways, steps or lighting. In addition, if you add any type of Halloween fun to your railing, make sure that it does not hinder anyone from grabbing the railing for extra support if needed. Clear leaves and other items away from all pathways to limit the chance of stumbles or falls as everyone rushes to get the best Halloween candy.

         2. Smooth Out Stumbling Spots: In preparation for Halloween, take care of any loose bricks, paving stones or uneven areas in the walkways. You may also want to install lights in order to make the trip to your door visible. If you’re going to be waiting indoors instead of outside for trick-or-treaters, make sure to have the front porch or walkway light on so passersby know to stop at your home as they go through the neighborhood.

  3. Secure Pets: With dramatically dressed visitors and spooky sounds, pets can become anxious. Keep all furry friends quartered indoors, away from the traffic of coming and going trick-or-treaters. This will ensure that no accidental mishaps occur.

We all want Halloween to be fun, but with these three simple tips, it can also remain safe. Let’s make Halloween 2014 the best one yet!
