Home to over 300 thriving businesses and considered a
national model for revitalizing a once-troubled neighborhood, the Short North
district of Columbus is widely considered the most teeming and vibrant spot in the
city. 14 years ago, 17 steel arches were put up from Goodale to Fifth Avenue on
High street, which is the most memorable characteristic of the area. Here you
can explore on foot artistic hubs such as Joseph Editions, Lindsay Gallery, The
Marcia Evans Gallery, and the Brand-Roberts Gallery, which have all had
exhibits gaining national attention this year.
Other events that draw residents curious about the
burgeoning scene are the Goodale Park Music Series, the 4th of July
Doo Dah Parade, Columbus Pride Festival, and the Columbus Arts Festival.
Everyone from students on up to active retirees will love the free “Screen on
the Green” series, which happens during July, August, and September. Here you
can also sample some of the city's best food trucks, and enjoy the outdoors
while re-visiting some of your favorite classics.
The nation's largest volunteer-run festival also takes
place right here: ComFest, or Community Festival, provides a voice for the more
innovate and thought-provoking side of politics, as well as being a forum for
local businesses to exhibit their wares and mantra. Here you'll get to sample
some of the best local bands, and experience an atmosphere that is similar to
what you can find in some other of the hippest cities in the USA, such as Austin,
Seattle, and Denver. The Red and White Boom here attracts over 400,000 people
annually, and is one of the best-equipped fireworks displays in the country.

Many East Coast transplants will be excited to find out
that they can obtain oysters on the half shell here, a staple of any raw bar
that makes your late-afternoon that much more awesome. Jumbo Lump Crab Cake, a
chilled shellfish platter, or an Ahi Tuna Tower are some other salacious
starters that will be perfect for keeping the conversation moving, or relishing
a meet-up with a friend you haven't seen in ages. The Surf N' Turf is a 7oz.
Filet and 9oz. Lobster tail, a scrumptious seafood plate that will have you
instantly daydreaming of Martha's Vineyard and Long Island afternoons.
Bar favorites on the standard side of things include a 9oz.
Dry aged cheeseburger, the Bacon Grueyere Dry Aged burger, and pan-sauteed
Chicken Parmesan. The Chicken Milanese is a crispy romano-crusted chicken, with
a white wine lemon caper sauce, a selection that will surely have you checking
your day-planner for the next time you can rush back.

Happy Hour in Columbus has
always been special: but the owners of Hyde Park have illustriously bumped the
bar up a notch: this is truly a venue to be seen in, or enjoy a solitary
cocktail in the sanctuary of the Short North.
