When spring hits and the time finally comes to load up
the clubs and drive to your favorite golf course, it's more than just the
thrill of spending time outdoors and some friendly competition that lures players
out. One of the best forms of solitude there is, you can take this time to
re-focus your thoughts, and make sure that your game is favorably in the low
numbers as possible. There is a very specific type of strategy needed when it
comes to getting on the putting green quickly, and many of these Central Ohio
facilities have lesson slots available where you can learn from the pros.
Today we'll take a quick look at some of the courses that
are well-known for being challenging, beautiful, and all-around awesome: we
live in a location that offers some of the most diverse recreation in the
nation, and we are proud of it! What these locations offer is more than just a
place to partake in the great sport of golf: the landmark scenery,
opportunities to enjoy the fairways and trees, and reveling in how much pride
the owners have in these golf courses will take you aback as soon as you show
up to play.
Here's a shortlist of Central Ohio's best, and some of their best
traits.
Champions Golf Course:
Champions Golf Course in Columbus has been designated as
the most challenging public course in Ohio because of its tight doglegs, hilly
terrain, ultra-tall trees, and fairways that seem to roll forever. This
top-notch place to play provides golf lessons by PGA professionals, and has a
full-service golf shop that you can find all of your most-needed supplies at
right on site. Even Business First Magazine agrees that this is the
course in central Ohio that absolutely has the highest level of difficulty, and
many who play here regularly agree. A definite “standby” favorite for many,
this course is consistently ranked high by users of all skill levels every
year.
Buck Ridge Golf Course
Just 15 minutes north of Columbus in Marysville, this is
course features the very characteristic bent grass trees of the area, natural
wildlife that you can enjoy while playing, and a staff that is here to make
sure every visit will make you want to return immediately. Immediately when you
begin play, the first hole has you making sure that you avoid the trees that
are situated on the left at about 100 yards out. There is a bunker to the right
front of the green, and it is sloped heavily in the back, making for an
additional challenge. Even the areas on this course such as hole 2 that have a
flatter than average green provide challenge, and every single time you
encounter water on this course will force you to up your game. One of Central
Ohio's “must-include” courses, Buck Ridge is a stop you will want to make on a
multi-day tour, or if this is your one chance at getting some golf in this
month.
Table Rock Golf Club
This is an 18-hole, par 72 course with five separate sets
of tees: they are known to be especially lax, and are about 25 minutes outside
of Columbus. They were the first in the area to have “FootGolf”: one way that
people can enjoy the pleasure of going through 18 holes without the fear of
having to become a total wizard with a set of clubs. It has been particularly
successful, because many in the area want to get outdoors and enjoy the same
things that those playing a full round would, but with a little less pressure
to be such a skilled warrior with the 3-iron. Also a great place to host a
wedding or charitable event, Table Rock is a location that you definitely want
to include in your tee time booking for the second half of this fantastic
summer.
Brookside Golf and Country Club
Founded in 1927, this private club in Worthington, Ohio
is an upscale location that has been host to US Open Sectional Qualifiers, and
also proudly put on the 2012 Ohio Amateur. General Manager Matt Ruehling is a
member of both the Club Managers Association of America, and Professional
Golfer's Association of America, and this location also has the pleasure of
having Executive Chef Clint Long at the helm of the food provisions. You can
also pay a visit to personal trainer Rob Drew: an individual with the ability
to train anyone in weight loss or athletic performance. This is a place where
you can obtain the true experience that all private golf clubs set out to
replicate, and is one of the finer things in life that is very understandably
“members only”.
Ironwood Golf Course
Ironwood is a public, 18-hole course located on 155
unique and picturesque acres in Hinckley, Ohio. It has been open since 1967,
and has for a long time been a very scenic and wonderful place to practice your
swing. There are 26 different leagues you can join here: you can opt to play on
weeknights, or have traveling leagues on weekends, and team up with others that
can help you enjoy the spirit of golf while you better your game. There is
nothing quite like a tee-off all by yourself in the morning, or a meeting with
your best friends on the course when you finally score some free time to
dabble. Come see the helpful staff at Ironwood soon, and get yourself swinging
while you are visiting a very prime and scenic location.
